Service or Devotion?

What is most needed in myself and in every believer is found in the heart of today's Oswald Chambers, January 18th, which is written about one line Jesus said to the woman at the well in John 4, "Give me water to drink."  in this devotion lies the greatest battle for all of us, and is probably the heart of why I am writing and going deep with this matter I call "God Time."  This is what Chambers has to say:
"The greatest competitor of true devotion to Jesus is the service we do for Him. It is easier to serve than to pour out our lives completely for Him."
Ahhhhh… Martha served, but Mary poured, and Jesus said, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one this is needed.  Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken from her." Luke 10:41-42
Prayer:

"This is really Your heart, O God, and it is what You want for all of us.  How easy it is to be busy for you rather than waiting on you and giving you to drink of our worship!  Yea God, that is what is best, for true worship is giving you our whole selves for You to enjoy!"

  1. Yes! Praise God! This is SUCH a profound truth! The American Church is really struggling with taking this one in. I know I am and have for many years. But our true service to God doesn't even START until we let go of ALL of our efforts and striving and completely look away from ourselves to Him in childlike trust. When we let ourselves go to that place of existential risk at possibly not "doing" something for God and just empty ourselves He ALWAYS comes in and fills the vacuum with Himself and His will.
Can we lose ourselves in the vision of Him Church? Can we lose our works and plans and dreams in childlike but DEEP trust in our I AM? Will we utterly let go and watch for His glory to appear?

I thank and praise God for a generation of young people and leaders whom the Spirit is touching with this heart of abandonment to their beloved! Praise God for you! God bless You!
